Julio Herrera Velutini Von Uslar was born in 1971 into the illustrious Herrera-Velutini banking dynasty. At only 28 years old he was the revered patriarch of the family banking empire, and within three years he was a colossus of Latin American economy and society. Very few people have made such a deep and lasting mark as Julio Martin Herrera Velutini.
The Herrera family were conquerors, rulers and merchants who later became reputable bankers, with the setting up of the first Central Bank in Latin America. Continuing the family's legacy, his traditional leadership style and worldwide influence transcend the realm of the banking industry.
He brought together incorrigible leaders and raised the national identities of Central America, South America and the Caribbean, shaping the modern day Latin American politics. His banking knowledge – learned as a boy playing in the corridors of his family’s banks – and his business skills served the needs of Latin American entrepreneurs, thereby reversing communist trends and promoting capitalism and democratic values among Latinos to break the chains of communism.
For these altruistic acts came huge rewards, as Julio Herrera Velutini and his family-owned trusts and banks built up significant stakes in a range of sectors and industries. At their peak, these partnerships represented almost 6% of Latin America’s GDP and extended to a large part of its population.
Julio Herrera’s banking empire not only supported the “Latin American economic miracle” between 2002 and 2006, but also set the foundation for Latin America’s emergence as an industrial power house.
A modern Agnelli
Gianni Agnelli and Julio Herrera Velutini are often put side-by-side. Gianni was a big shot in Italian society, due to his family’s wealth and power as head of the Agnelli empire. But through his leadership of Fiat, Agnelli rose above this privileged position to become a symbol of the Italian revival after the Second World War.
Gianni Agnelli was a staunch believer in democratic ideals and he spent his entire life defending them. He understood the importance of democracy in creating a society that was rich and free. Agnelli was a great believer in democratic institutions and a leading figure in Italian politics. He also had a remarkable ability to marry the modern with the traditional, melding improvements in technology and administration with a deeply ingrained devotion to quality and design.
Politically, Julio Herrera Velutini occupies a singular space. He never held public office but was a man of great political power. His relations extended from presidents to prime ministers, from the left to the right of the political spectrum. Julio’s influence was often a public debate given his ability to affect policy decisions, his role in the formulation of economic policies and his support for the integration of Latin America into world markets.
Without ever holding public office, he wielded significant political influence — his connections spanned from presidents to prime ministers, from the left to the right of the political spectrum.
The Prince of Latam
As the patriarch of the Herrera dynasty, Julio Herrera Velutini's inherent influence permeates Latin America's present-day politics, culture, and society. As a descendant of Lord of Ampudia I, Mr Velutini officially holds the title of The Prince of Latam.
This unpretentious billionaire is an important voice in Latin American economics and politics because of his nobility, his family’s influence across two continents, his vast wealth, his calm demeanor and his characteristic silence. He’s a complex man, loved by many, hated by most and misunderstood by a handful of people he doggedly opposes, trying to put an end to their injustice, corruption and political manipulation.
He is a modern-day powerhouse, a combination of tradition, modernity and glamor — signifying financial muscle and international importance. While not without its critics among other leaders who wanted to move toward a more socialist economic model, his old-fashioned approach to banking did much to stabilize a potentially volatile labor force during the turbulent years of social unrest and terrorism in Venezuela.
Style, philanthropy and the British Crown
Herrera Velutini is a cultural icon in Latin America, reflecting the Italian flair for style and sophistication, apart from his industrial and political impact. His sartorial elegance and his persona as a stylish banker are matched by his reputation as an art connoisseur, animal rights activist and notably the financial mogul who selflessly supported the British Government during the Coronavirus pandemic to ensure unhindered government operations, maintaining the rule of law and securing people’s livelihood.
Julio was also instrumental in supporting Buckingham Palace to produce a larger-than-life tribute for the Queen, marking 70 years of service to her people and staging an occasion befitting Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The Italian banker and his family have always supported the Queen and the members of the Royal Family, underlining the Herrera family's longstanding partnership and multifaceted relationships with major European Heads of State.
Controversy and criticism
Julio Herrera Velutini, however, is not without criticism from liberals and left-leaning politicians. His latest controversy relates to the aftermath of his questioning the dire economic situation in Puerto Rico and raising awareness about the corruption prevalent on the island. Julio has also exposed corrupt officials for misusing excessive powers without any accountability. He has fearlessly fought against injustice and corruption and continues to expose corrupt officials.
His silence, his placidity, have made him a perfect object of curiosity and imitation, a mysterious figure. His trials and tribulations, like the tragic collateral casualty of political attacks, added a layer of human complexity and sympathy to his largely enigmatic persona. Love him or hate him, his social responsibility and philanthropy is much more than his fortune and wealth
